Germans killed as many as 1.5 million children during the Holocaust, including:
- Over a million Jewish children
- Tens of thousands of Gypsy children
- Polish children
- Children in the Soviet Union
- German children with disabilities
Fate of Jews in concentration camps fell under one of the following:
- Killed upon arrival (primarily in gas chambers)
- Killed at birth or in institutions
- Born and hidden in ghettos/camps
- Used as laborers and tested in medical experiments
- Killed during acts of retaliation
Children traded their personal possessions for food and medicine to smuggle into the ghettos.
